In 1997 early snowstorms killed the yaks in one of the highest inhabited area of the high plateau. Of 3987 yaks amongst these people, only 30 survived. The Government gathered the 23 stricken families into a poverty camp. The situation there is desperate. The suffering is great. The people are virtually starving. Jinpa is helping to build a school/community centre where the children can receive education and the families some healthcare. Jinpa is working with the Government and the community to help these families back up onto their feet.
